Dr. Senthil Gounder joined the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in 2024 as the Health Program Specialist. In this role, he supports Alzheimer's Disease/Alzheimer's Disease related Dementia (AD/ADRD) efforts within the Innovation Grants to Nurture Initial Translational Efforts (IGNITE) at the Division of Translational Research, NINDS.

Before joining NINDS, Dr. Gounder served as a Project Manager for Team Liddle (Aligning Science Across Parkinson's) in the Division of Gastroenterology at Duke University. Dr. Gounder earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacal Science (Neuropharmacology and Toxicology) from Auburn University, where he focused on exploring the impact of environmental toxins on neurodegeneration. Following his doctoral studies, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship and worked as a Research Associate in Drs Valina and Ted Dawson's lab at the Institute for Cell Engineering, Department of Neurology, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. During his time at Hopkins, his research centered on target identification, validation, and target engagement-based drug discovery to prevent or halt Parkinson's disease.
