Dr. Bernardo Sabatini is challenging the general notion that each neuron uses one principal neurotransmitter to communicate. The current set of experiments will examine the integration and coordination of peptidergic, GABAergic, and cholinergic signaling and how these diverse signaling molecules act together to impact cortical activity and plasticity. Discovering how these signaling pathways regulate cortical function could inform the study and treatment of cognitive function in neurodegenerative disorders.
