Dr. Sobolevsky’s research has focused on structural biology and electrophysiology and has made substantial contributions to our understanding of the structural mechanisms of fast synaptic transmission by elucidating the structures of multiple glutamate receptors. His project aims to dissect the molecular basis of the heteromeric complexes of ionotropic glutamate receptors (iGluRs) known as AMPA receptors and Kainic acid receptors, which are important for mediating signal in the brain. Understanding the molecular basis of these iGluRs complexes may aid therapeutic development for neurological disorders such as epilepsy, and other conditions related with excitatory neurotransmission.
