Health Scientist Administrator, URGenT

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a leading supporter of biomedical research on disorders of the brain and the nervous system at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NINDS Division of Translational Research (DTR) is recruiting a Health Scientist Administrator who will be responsible for management of Ultra-rare Gene-based Therapy (URGenT) research grants. These cooperative agreement research grants feature cross-functional therapeutic discovery research teams where grantees are provided with drug discovery consultants and Contract Research Organization resources to facilitate progression of their project.

The Ultra-rare Gene-based Therapy (URGenT) network supports the development of state-of-the-art gene-based therapies for ultra-rare neurological diseases, which affect as few or fewer than one in fifty thousand people. The URGenT program is an aggressive program that provides funding and resources to advance gene-based therapies for ultra-rare neurological diseases from late-stage pre-clinical development into first-in-human clinical testing.

The successful candidate will work with the Program Director for the biologics programs, along with other Program Officers and Scientific Project Managers within the team. Since all of these programs feature considerable collaborative work with other NINDS Divisions and with other NIH Institutes, the successful candidate will be part of a large collaborative team within NINDS and NIH.

A strong background in neuroscience, translational research, and/or therapeutic and biologics development, with prior experience in scientific project management is highly desirable. Prospective candidates with a PhD is also highly desirable, or s/he must demonstrate equivalent experience.

The position will be filled under a Title 5 GS-601-13/14 appointment. Salary is commensurate with the experience and a full package of Civil Service benefits is available, including retirement, health and life insurance, leave, and savings plan (401K equivalent).
