Health Scientist Administrator, Small Business Program

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a leading supporter of biomedical research on disorders of the brain and the nervous system at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NINDS Division of Translational Research (DTR) is recruiting a Health Scientist Administrator who will be responsible for management of Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) research grants within the Small Business Program (SBP).

The NINDS Small Business Program funds research and development within eligible small business concerns to enable the commercialization of innovative products that serve the NINDS mission space. NINDS SBIR/STTR funding supports an array of technologies including therapeutics, medical devices, biomarkers, and research tools. The SBP portfolio encompasses all indications within the NINDS mission space and supports R&D at the preclinical and early clinical stages.

The successful candidate will hold a portfolio of SBIR and STTR awards, conduct due diligence on incoming applications, and work with the Small Business Program Director and team to develop funding plans. The incumbent will be involved in the creation and execution of NINDS and NIH-wide initiatives to support NINDS-funded companies on their path to commercialization.

Prospective candidates should have either a PhD in a relevant technical area or an MBA combined with a minimum of bachelor’s level expertise in a relevant technical area. A strong technical background in neuroscience, translational research, and therapeutic and biologics development is highly desirable. Prior experience within the biotech industry, within the biotech funding ecosystem, and in scientific project management is highly desirable.

The position will be filled under a Title 5 GS-601-13/14 appointment. Salary is commensurate with the experience and a full package of Civil Service benefits is available, including retirement, health and life insurance, leave, and savings plan (401K equivalent).
